Printer back online

by Ivan Sentch 10. August 2013 13:48

The printer extruder got blocked a couple of weeks ago but while trying to unblock it I broke it and had to order a new part, the new parts have arrived and it's back online, printing has resumed!!! 46 days of rapid printing left before I need to relocate, that should be enough to finish the body and 30% of the dash

On the assembly front nothing has been done, with the house and the media coverage lately I've had no time, but I'm back into it now so if I'm a bit tardy replying to you it's because I'm trying to get some traction (I will eventually you'll just need to wait a bit)

For those coming in from the yahoo article, I'm not putting a bmw v12 in this (that's going in the 250 GTO I built a few years ago) also I'm printing a plug not the body of the actual car, also also once I've finished I still have about 5 years before I'm actually done (yahoo got it a bit wrong)

How did you come up with the 5 year estimate?

I'm curious as I've passed year 2 on the MogRod project, my current hold-up being I haven't been able to take the necessary Solidworks classes to design the chassis. My Barracuda resto ended up taking almost 15 years (started in high school), though the last 2-5 years were a mix of "running / not running" issues that were beyond my control as far as the rebuild goes.

I'm hoping the MogRod doesn't  take more than 4-5 years total, though for me money for the finish details may end up being the biggest hangup.

It's a complete guess, gut feel based on how long the 250 GTO took (2 years)  with the extra work involved in this one and the less time and money I have compared to that project (I was 21 when I did the 250 GTO so no kids and seemingly endless spare time and a mostly disposable income)

Yeah, not having a family or other major financial tie-downs can definitely be a big boon to working on a car. On the Barracuda, since it was my parents' car, they funded most of the project (I probably put somewhere between 7 and 10 grand in myself). The amount of time it took was a mix of me being new to that level of working on a car, the body shop took a few years, and the fact it was happening while I was going through highs school, college, and then the start of my career.

I'm definitely hoping the MogRod will take some big leaps forward within the next 6 months to year timeframe. I'm talking quite a bit with my parents about buying them a home and taking over their current residence, which would obviously put a strain on my finances if that happens in a few years.

On a note about the 3D printing, I figured you'd find this article interesting:
